The Husband Course
Module 1 · The Husband Course

Module 1 of 7 · 45–60 minutes, plus one check-in this week

Build the Foundation

What am I building my marriage on, and what am I personally responsible to reinforce?

This week's finish line: Schedule a weekly 20-minute marriage check-in, complete the first one, and follow through with one act of care based on what you heard.

Opening

Why this matters now

A strong marriage is built out of protected attention and repeated habits, so this module asks for one small thing done once rather than a dramatic evening you will not repeat.

Your first assignment is not to grade your wife but to establish a rhythm she can reasonably expect: invite, listen, own one responsibility, act, and come back.

Her participation is invited, not demanded. If she declines today, you can still schedule the rhythm, write honest answers yourself, and complete a no-strings-attached act of care.

This week

Your tasks

Work through these in order. Each task has an observable finish line.

This week's study guide Marriage Connection Roadmap
Field graphic titled The Connection Roadmap: Tending Your Marriage Vineyard. Seven panels cover the drift into emotional disconnection, the vineyard framework of adjusting, pruning, supporting and renewing, safety carve-outs marking which relationships this course suits, the protected weekly date, proactive nurturing over fault-finding, warning signs calling for professional help, and a seven-day action plan running from scheduling the date to reviewing what helped.

Visual roadmap of connection habits.

Task 1

Schedule the check-in

Twenty uninterrupted minutes, not a performance review.

Actions

  1. Ask: "I want to protect twenty minutes for us each week; not to grade our marriage, just to stay connected. Would [day/time] work?"
  2. Choose a quiet, neutral setting. Do not begin in bed, late at night, during a rushed transition, or when either of you is already upset.
  3. Put the time on your calendar only after she agrees; or after you have made a respectful invitation she may decline without penalty.

Task 2

Prepare three questions

Actions

  1. Write: "What felt good between us this week?"
  2. Write: "What felt heavy?"
  3. Write: "What is one small thing I could do that would help?"
  4. Do not prepare a defense, a correction script, or a list of complaints for her.

Task 3

Complete the first check-in

Actions

  1. Put phones away. Keep the meeting to twenty minutes unless she freely wants more.
  2. Listen without correcting her memory or explaining your intent.
  3. Share one pressure of your own without making her responsible to fix it.
  4. End on time. A trustworthy rhythm respects the boundary it promises.

Task 4

Act before the next check-in

Actions

  1. Complete one reasonable act of care connected to what you heard.
  2. Do it without announcing points, expecting praise, or requiring reciprocity.
  3. Write no private report about her answers. Store no sensitive details in this course.

Task 5

Protect the rhythm

Actions

  1. Put the next check-in on the calendar before the first one ends.
  2. If the first time did not work, repair the miss and choose another time; do not quit because it felt awkward.
  3. Do not turn consistency into surveillance. A check-in is not a performance review or evidence that you are now entitled to praise.

Private self-check

Reflect alone, then check each one off. Do not use these to diagnose or score your wife.
