This is a clarifying measure, not a sweeping one. Federal law already bars noncitizen voting in federal elections; this writes a citizens-only rule into the state's founding document so a future legislature or local government can't quietly open the rolls. Eight states did the same in 2024. The fair criticism is that it addresses a problem that is rare in practice. The fair answer is that a clear rule in the constitution is cheap insurance, and there is little to object to in the text itself.
