Georgia: Religious Freedom Restoration Act Enacted

State of Georgia

Georgia became the 30th state to enact its own Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) in 2025. The law matches federal RFRA language and includes additional provisions allowing plaintiffs in lawsuits against the government to recover their legal costs, and permitting judges to order governments to change laws or practices that infringe on religious beliefs.

This is a significant victory for religious liberty advocates who have sought state-level RFRA protections for years. The law provides important legal protections for people of faith against government overreach.

RESOLUTE Citizen Analysis

Religious liberty is the first freedom. A state RFRA ensures that government cannot burden the free exercise of religion without demonstrating a compelling interest -- a vital protection for Christians and all people of faith.

"We ought to obey God rather than men."

— Acts 5:29 (KJV)
