This amendment would alter the portion of the Arkansas Constitution that echoes the federal Second Amendment. The expanded language would clarify that the right to keep and bear arms extends to 'the possession and use of' ammunition, firearm accessories, and firearm components.
This measure is designed to preemptively protect against future attempts to restrict access to ammunition or accessories as an indirect means of limiting firearm ownership. Requires a simple majority to pass, effective January 1, 2027.
The right of self-defense is grounded in natural law. This amendment strengthens protections for lawful firearm ownership by closing potential regulatory loopholes around ammunition and accessories.
