Arkansas: Citizens Only Voting Amendment

State of Arkansas

This legislatively referred amendment would add explicit language to the Arkansas Constitution stating that 'Only a citizen of the United States meeting the qualifications of an elector' may vote in state or local elections. While noncitizen voting is already prohibited under existing law, this amendment would elevate that prohibition to constitutional status.

The measure is part of a broader national trend of states constitutionally codifying citizenship requirements for voting. Requires a simple majority to pass, effective January 1, 2027.

RESOLUTE Citizen Analysis

Ensuring that only lawful citizens participate in elections upholds the integrity of self-governance. This is a straightforward measure to constitutionally protect an existing standard.

"Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people."

— Proverbs 14:34 (KJV)
